In the 4th century, Pope Silvestro I built a church in the place where Christians had been praying since the 2nd century, at the house of a certain Equizio. Above this pope Symmachus later founded a basilica dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours.

 

Nel IV secolo Silvestro I costruì una chiesa nel luogo dove fin dal II secolo i cristiani si riunivano per pregare, presso la casa di un certo Equizio. Al di sopra di questa Simmaco fondò più tardi una basilica dedicata a San Martino di Tours.
